England Hockey Masters XI Vs Hockey for Heroes XI

Sunday 12th July 2015

@ Old Silhillians Hockey Club, Solihull, West Midlands

Hockey for heroes comprises of current Military and Ex-Military personnel that come together in support of those that have fallen or have been injured during their service for the country, all with the collective target of raising as many funds as possible for the help for heroes charity through their passion for hockey. The charity has been fundraising to help run the current four recovery centres across the UK to help those injured ease into the many aspects of civilian life, including individual support, rehousing, career recovery, families, mental health, veterans and sports recovery.

The work taken on board by fundraising teams such as Hockey for heroes is highly beneficial in developing state of the art facilities for rehabilitation to all injured service personnel, including the £8.5 million Headley Court facility opened by HRH Prince William in 2010. These teams recognise the importance of expanding and improving these facilities for their injured colleagues through a true act of kindness, with the view of aiding them back into civilian life again.

On Sunday 12th July 2015, Hockey for heroes played against the England Masters Invitation XI, in what would prove to be a fiercely competitive yet enjoyable speculative for all. A great spectacle for all was somewhat enhanced by the launch of the hosts new club house at the Old Silhillians Hockey Club, West Midlands, warmly welcomed by the fantastic turnout to support two highly competitive teams battle it out, but all in the charitable spirit for a worthwhile cause.

It did not disappoint, with end to end action throughout, crunching tackles and some speculative team and individuals goals (some not so!) resulting in a nail biting finish for both sets of fans. With the Masters XI holding on to the final result, ending:

England Hockey Masters XI 3 – 2 Hockey for Heroes XI

Both sets of captains were incredibly proud of their team’s performances throughout, with England Hockey Masters XI captain Ajan Reginald stating to have been privileged in having his team be part of such a display for a very worthwhile cause, all in the name of charity, something we can all admire through the participation of sport. Adding that the day could not have been any more of a success largely due to the hospitality of the Old Silhillians club, admiring their state of the art new club house and facilities, whilst thanking both sets of teams and their enthusiastic fans for making this such a special occasion.
